I moved to the Wilmington area from Asheville, NC in 1991. During my time in Asheville and Wilmington, I’ve gained a lot of experience in the food service industry and built many strong relationships with people in the restaurant business. My background consists of 27+ years of experience which includes culinary training at Asheville Culinary Institute, chef and sous chef in the hotel industry, kitchen manager in resorts & clubs, certification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology at CFCC and Service Technician & Manager in several restaurants. As a Service Technician for 15 of those years at a high-volume restaurant chain in Wilmington, I learned two important aspects in the restaurant business: having the equipment in good working condition and how to keep them in good standing with the Health Department by maintaining the building aesthetics. This valuable experience led me to where I am today in the start of my own food service and sales company.
While employed as a Service Technician, I started my own business in 1994 out of my home as Request Maintenance Services doing service and repairs for restaurants and residential customers. In 1995, I met my wife, Octavia McQueen Spicer and we’ve been married for 15 years. We have a very outgoing little girl, Carissa Jade, 6. My wife jumped on board to help me with the business while working her full-time job as a Social Worker and as a mother. We both discovered that our home was not equipped to support the growth of the business. That is when we decided to transition into a small office space and shop area in 2008 focusing on repairing restaurant equipment and part sales with three employees in place.
As the company continued to grow, we saw the need for more employees and a larger space to support the customer volume. Today the business is known as RM Services & Sales Inc. which employees seven people and is now in an even larger space with a showroom. We listened to the needs of our customers and recently opened our new store RM Restaurant Supplies at 1930 Castle Hayne Road. This has become a great accomplishment for us and has proven to be a worthwhile adventure thus far. We specialize in the food services industry and sell bar and service supplies, catering supplies, professional cookware, tabletop and service supplies, cutlery, glassware and restaurant equipment. We also service the equipment we sell. Whatever you need to start and/or continue your restaurant, catering business, such as the layout and design, supplies, equipment (new or refurbished), we can help you.
Our main focus is customer service and integrity. You have to listen to the needs of your customers and stand behind your word to be successful in any business.
